The timeline for seeing results depends on the type and severity of your condition. Your therapist will discuss expectations around symptom resolution once you have been assessed. Our physiotherapists tailor each treatment plan to your specific needs to ensure the best outcomes.

Sports injuries can be difficult to recover from. Physio helps with maximising the quality of healing naturally taking place, preventing scar tissue. Physio also helps restore progressively range of motion, strength and flexibility after injury. It can assist with high level rehab before return to sport lowering the risk of re-injury.
-
Physio can help with persistent pain management. We use a variety of techniques starting with an in-depth interview exploring beliefs around pain and how your symptoms impact your life. Various strategies can be used to help, including graded exposure and a cognitive functional approach to rehab. Exercise is usually at the heart of the therapy.
-
The physio will conduct an in-depth interview with you to gain an understanding of your symptoms and how they affect you. You will be asked about your medical history and the history of the problem you present with. A physical examination will follow. During the initial appointment there is usually time to start treatment and advice on an initial set of exercises. Within about 24 hours the physio will be in touch with a summary of the findings and with a written plan.
-
Manual therapy can be uncomfortable at times and can re-produce symptoms. We always work within your tolerance and explain everything clearly before starting. Any hands on work is done with your prior consent, you can withdraw consent at any time - you are in charge. You are encouraged to guide the therapist as to what is within your comfort limits.
-
Wear comfortable clothes that allow access to the body part that is being treated. A vest top is ideal for an upper body problem and shorts for a lower body condition.
-
The frequency of your physiotherapy sessions will depend on your presentation. Some people can respond really quickly and others take longer and require more support. Typically, if you have muscle weakness you will need to undertake a strength programme that lasts for a number of weeks, if you just have joint stiffness and no weakness then you may respond very quickly with manual therapy. If you need a longer term progressive strength programme we often space review sessions out to allow time to make progress with exercises before progressing them.

Strength and exercise is at the heart of our approach to rehab. You will undergo strength testing by your physio to establish exactly which muscles are weak and need strength work. If a lack of strength is contributing to your symptoms you will be given strength work. Having strong muscles reduces joint stress and makes movement easier. Vitalis also offers high level rehabilitation that returns you to the sports you love, with return to run programmes available and pre-running conditioning drills.
